I’m exercising, but still not losing weight?
So you hit the gym regularly and work up a pretty good sweat. You get home and hit the scales only to find that nothing has changed. You start questioning why your body refuses to shed the kilos when you’ve worked so hard to get rid of them! Here are some small tips that may help you…
Our diet (what we eat) plays an important part in creating a better, stronger and leaner body. So here’s the thing, you’re going along with all the exercise and you’re getting some results but still feel that there’s more to it. Well you’re right. Now that you’re on the path to a healthy lifestyle and are exercising regularly, you need to start fueling your body to be able to cope with the new activities you’re doing. Again to keep things simple let’s look at some of the pitfalls of the current ‘Western or Developed’ countries diet;
Not enough FIBRE
HIGH calorie meals
Full of SATURATED FATS
Lots of PROCESSED foods
HIGH intake of ALCOHOL vs LOW WATER intake
So chances are, any one or a combination of some or all of the above are plaguing your current diet. If you can start to make some changes today it will go a long way to improve your health, giving you more energy and allowing you to transform into a leaner, healthier body!
A few ways that may help are:
Change to a higher fibre cereal and/or breads
Choose poly/mono unsaturated fats (look at your butters, margarines and cooking oils)
Choose leaner cuts of meats (If you don’t know, ask your butcher)
Stock and bring unprocessed fruits for snacks and breakfast
Limit alcohol to weekends and special occassions (there are 7 calories for every gram of alcohol. That’s 2nd only to Fat which has 9 calories per gram)
Drink at least 2L of water daily
If we can start to apply some if not all of these tips, you’ll find that you’ll begin to have more energy and better recovery from exercise and stress!
